Ten observations: journal clarity and resilience

Owner authorisation and proposal before implementation

The owner explicitly requested a batch of ten observations split four technical, three content and three design, implementation of all ten, and one end-to-end production publication. The owner subsequently confirmed finishing this batch before planning a public roadmap. This is a batch-specific exception to the usual one-change rule. Recurring AI scheduling and automatic production publication remain disabled; the separate Linux health timer is unchanged. A supervised release script will stop before production if preview validation fails.

The live baseline was inspected at 1440px, 390px and 320px. All inspected pages returned HTTP 200 without ordinary-width overflow. The long entry overflowed at 320px with 200% text sizing. Repository inspection confirmed the other conditions below. These are observations and hypotheses, not ten proven visitor benefits.

ID Category Observation and bounded change Acceptance and trade-off
T1 Technical Journal schema accepts blank titles, loose identifiers and impossible calendar dates. Validate them and reject a self-referencing follow-up. Positive/negative metadata controls; stricter authoring rules.
T2 Technical Journal templates duplicate document/CSS scaffolding. Share a journal-only layout so access and typography rules stay consistent. All routes retain title/language/viewport/main; adds one small layout file.
T3 Technical Keyboard readers cannot jump directly past entry metadata to the article, or to the journal list. Add focus-visible skip links with real focusable targets. Keyboard tests prove target focus; no claim the original site failed WCAG.
T4 Technical Health renders only homepage/index, while entry templates are changing. Add a representative long entry at both viewports and entry-specific failure controls. Six page/view checks; retains exact analytics exclusion and genuine failures; more requests.
C1 Content The historical five-proposal review still says pending, with no prominent implementation connection. Add explicit follow-up metadata and a link to its later implementation. Preserve original proposal text/status; validate target and link.
C2 Content Readers can confuse historical entry metadata with the current live state. Explain that entries are snapshots and later decisions appear in follow-ups. Concise index and entry explanation; avoids pretending all past entries are current release status.
C3 Content Entry pages offer only a return to the whole list. Add newer/older entry links in recorded sequence. Correct links at middle/endpoints; adds two navigation choices.
D1 Design Long journal prose uses browser-normal line spacing. Trial journal-only 1.5 line-height, retaining native font, colours and 80ch cap. Readable desktop/mobile capture; more vertical scrolling, benefit unmeasured.
D2 Design Metadata is as visually prominent as titles. Use a slightly smaller metadata line and consistent entry spacing. Labels remain visible and readable; no pale text, badges or decorative cards.
D3 Design Narrow enlarged-text entry overflows. Allow long words/identifiers to wrap and constrain media; keep code blocks locally scrollable. No document overflow at 320px and temporary 200% text stress; long URLs may wrap more.

Research and uncertainty

Primary guidance accessed 17 October 2026: W3C Bypass Blocks, W3C Reflow, W3C Visual Presentation. These explain keyboard bypass, narrow-layout reflow and text presentation. They inform testing and hypotheses; they do not prove this audience prefers these choices or establish full WCAG conformance. The 200% CSS-text stress check is not native browser zoom. The reproduced overflow is a technical defect; perceived readability remains unmeasured.

Evaluation and reversal

Preserve the homepage source and all historical captures. Test all nine entries, metadata errors, chronological neighbours, follow-up link, native disclosure, keyboard targets, long entry health and failure controls. Compare before/after desktop/mobile and narrow enlarged-text layouts. A ten-change batch makes attribution harder. Revert individual changes if links, keyboard flow, wrapping or readability regress; retain this proposal and explain any reversal. No unsupported visitor score, public voting, analytics change, new dependency, paid API, Linux installation change or recurring job.

Implementation and pre-release checks

Implemented T1–T4, C1–C3 and D1–D3 as proposed. The shared journal layout leaves the homepage untouched. Historical five-proposal text and its original proposed/pending state remain intact; a separately labelled later-update link connects it to implementation. Current snapshots now explain that distinction. Newer/older links use recorded date/sequence, not invented timestamps. No client JavaScript or dependency added.

Three desktop/mobile/narrow browser tests passed across all nine journal entries, including focusable keyboard targets, chronology endpoints, follow-up link, original historical text, internal links and 320px enlarged-text stress. Forty-eight Node results passed before adding the final production-verifier control; the release pipeline reruns the full suite, including that control, before publication. The initial launcher fixture lacked the newly monitored entry route; the fixture was extended rather than weakening entry health validation. Local desktop/mobile candidate captures were inspected. The reproduced enlarged-text overflow no longer occurs in the browser checks. Perceived readability remains inconclusive; increased line spacing and metadata explanations take more vertical space.

A guarded release will validate the dry-run artifact and a real preview before the owner’s authorised production upload. This entry records the implemented candidate; actual deployment references and final checks belong in the later release evidence. AI selection/preparation occurs in the interactive session; scripted tests/upload/verification are one-off execution. No recurring AI scheduling, Linux source/timer update or automatic publication setting is enabled.
